1 day trip to Maramureș

Peri Monastery in Maramures, Romania

with departure from Cluj-Napoca or the nearby area at 8 a.m)

This trip will take you through one of the most archaic-looking parts of Transylvania, Maramureș, where you’ll get to see the UNESCO world heritage site wooden church from Șurdești (the tallest one of them all)

Here you’ll find out how an icon killed a soldier in the second world war.

Next you will experience first-hand a bizarre phenomena, the antigravitational road, where water, balls and even cars go uphill, instead of downhill.

Next stop is at the Happy cemetery in Săpânța, a place where the old pagan belief of reincarnation is kept alive.

The last stop of the day will let you experience one of Romania’s darkest periods, at The Memorial of the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance. Here you will see who was imprisoned here, what it was like to be a captive here and how much this period of time is still imbedded into the memory of the Romanian people.
